Windows XP and WordPad - Prevent Entire Words From Being Selected

SUMMARY: Fix WordPad "greedy" text selection.

When selecting characters in a WordPad document, you may have noticed that if you select more than one or two characters in a word, the entire word gets selected. While this is supposed to be a shortcut in that WordPad thinks you always need to select entire words, what if you just need to select a few characters?

To turn off this automatic word selection "feature":

1. Select "View" - "Options".
2. When the "Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "Options" tab.
3. Uncheck "Automatic word selection".
4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
