Wireless Internet

May Have to Agree to Terms of Service Before Access

SUMMARY: Don't get frustrated if connecting to the Internet via a HotSpot doesn't seem to work - you may have to agree to a Terms of Service first using the web browser.

Depending on how a Wi-Fi HotSpot is configured, as soon as you connect to the HotSpot, you may not be able to immediately access Internet services such as VPN (Virtual Private Network), SFTP, SSH, Telnet, FTP, etc. If these services do not work, try accessing a website using your web browser. At that point, you may be required to agree to a Terms of Service. Once this is signed, other Internet services should then function.

For example, this occurred to me recently when accessing the Internet at Panera Bread - http://www.panerabread.com
