Microsoft Word 2010 - Spice Up Your Underlines with Colors, Dashes, Waves, and More

SUMMARY: Draw attention to text by underlining it in different colors and styles in Word 2010.

If you need to draw attention to text in Microsoft Word 2010, one simple way is to underline it. Doing so is simple - highlight the text, press CTRL+U, or press the "U" button in the "Font" section on the "Home" tab of the Ribbon.

If you really want to draw more attention to the text, underline the text in a different color, or choose from various styles including waves, combinations of dots and dashes, or an underline that only affects words in a group and not spaces in between.

1. Select the text you wish to underline.

2. Open the "Font" dialog box. You can do this by selecting the "Home" tab in the Ribbon, then clicking the arrow at the bottom-right of the "Font" section. Or, press CTRL + SHIFT + F.

Once you have chosen a style, you can click the pull-down underneath "Underline color". This opens a pop-up menu where you can choose a different underline color from various Theme and Standard colors. The "More Colors" link in this pop-up menu lets you choose from any color.
