You may not realize this, but your copy of Microsoft Word 2003 may have some security holes. If exploited, these security holes could cause problems for your machine and loss of data.
To patch most known security holes, point your web browser to the Microsoft Office webpage at http://office.microsoft.com. Click the "Check for Updates" button, then select the "Check for Updates" link. After a minute or two, the updater will let you know if any security patches exist, and will let you download and install them from the page. Make sure that you have your original Microsoft Word 2003 disks handy, as most patches will require this disk.
Some patches may have to be installed before others, and some patches may require rebooting your machine. If so, follow the instructions, revisit this page, and keep checking for patches until your copy of Microsoft Word 2003 is up-to-date.
