Microsoft Word 2003 supports a variety of document types depending on which file converters you have installed, including those written with WordPerfect and Microsoft Works. When you open a file that is not a Microsoft Word file, it may automatically try to load the correct converter without prompting you. If you find that Microsoft Word is incorrectly converting these documents, you can force it instead to prompt you for which converter to use.
1. Click "Tools", selecting "Options".
