Microsoft Word 2003 Compatibility and Other Word Processors - Automatically Save Word Files as Different File Types

Although this happens less often nowadays, some people work in offices that use multiple word processing formats. If so, for compatibility reasons, you may want to automatically save your Microsoft Word documents using a different file type that other word processors can more easily open.

1. Click "Tools", selecting "Options".

2. When the "Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, select "Save".

3. Next to "Save Word files as", select your desired default file save type. Note that if you do not check Microsoft Word, it is possible that some of your formatting may not be saved with the files.

4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.

Alternatively you can choose to save all of your files as Microsoft Word and then manually convert them to other file types as needed, but you may find performing this tweak more convenient.

Press the "print" button on your browser or select "File" - "Print" to print this tip. Then, return to Microsoft Word 2003 Compatibility and Other Word Processors - Automatically Save Word Files as Different File Types.
