Summary: Force Microsoft Word 2003 to prompt whenever a document is opened that it should not be modified but opened in "read-only" mode.
When saving a Microsoft Word 2003 document, you can recommend that others opening the document not modify it. This read-only recommendation may be useful if you wish to keep one "master copy" of a document and not have others modify your text. While this discourages document editing, others can still open the document and save edited copies themselves, but they must use a different filename.
1. Click "Tools" - "Options".
2. When the "Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "Security" tab.
3. Check "Read-only recommended".
4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
