SUMMARY: Change temporary folders WinZip uses when manipulating files.
Normally, WinZip uses your default temporary folder when manipulating ZIP archives and other files.
However, there may be circumstances where you wish to use a different temporary folder, perhaps one on a different drive. This is especially important if your C:\ drive is nearly full yet you have another data partition or hard drive with much more room to spare.
For example, on Windows XP, this temp directory may be:
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Temp\
Replace USERNAME with your login username.
1. From the Classic interface, choose "Options" - "Configuration".
2. When the multi-tabbed "Configuration" dialog box appears, click the "Folders" tab.
3. Underneath "Temp folder", type in the name of your desired temp folder or click the nearby folder icon to browse your computer for a folder.
WinZip uses this folder for temporary files such as when you are viewing information inside an archive.
4. Underneath "Working folder" do the same thing.
WinZip uses this folder to create a temporary ZIP archive when manipulating the contents of a ZIP file on removable media. This is done for speed and because the removable media may not have enough room for this temporary file.
5. When manipulating the contents of a ZIP file on non-removable media, WinZip normally places a temporary copy of the ZIP file in its original folder. If you would like to use this "Working Folder" instead, uncheck the "Use for removable media only" checkbox.
6. Press "OK" to close the dialog box.
Press the "print" button on your browser or select "File" - "Print" to print this tip. Then, return to WinZip - WinZip 12.x - Change the Temp and Working Folders
