WinZip 10.x - Open ZIP Files in Separate Windows or Use the Same Window
SUMMARY: Do you need to open multiple ZIP files in WinZip simultaneously, such as to compare their contents?
Depending on your configuration, when you open a second ZIP or other archive with WinZip, one of two things may happen:
1. A second WinZip window will appear, allowing you to work on both archives simultaneously.
2. The WinZip window will unload the previously-accessed archive and load the new one.
Some people prefer option 1 if they plan on working with many different ZIP files and have enough RAM in their computer to multitask. Others prefer option 2 if their computer has minimal RAM, don't often need to work with multiple ZIP files simultaneously, and/or might get confused if multiple WinZip windows remain open.
To toggle this functionality, select "Options" - "Reuse WinZip Windows". When checked, only one WinZip window will remain open at a time. Unchecked, multiple windows can appear.
Return to the WinZip page.
