Windows XP Taskbar - Toolbar - Start Menu - Disable Internet Time Server Synchronization

SUMMARY: For privacy, prevent Windows XP from synchronizing the system time with an Internet time server.

If you are not a member of a domain, Windows XP may periodically synchronize your computer's clock with an Internet time server. For privacy or other reasons, you may not wish to allow this synchronization to automatically occur. Thus, this feature can be disabled. However, depending on your computer's internal clock, you may have to occasionally adjust the time manually.

1. Double-click the time on the Windows XP Taskbar to open the "Date and Time Properties" multi-tabbed dialog box.

2. When this dialog box appears, click the "Internet Time" tab. If you are a member of a domain, the "Internet Time" tab does not appear, and you can ignore this tip.

3. Uncheck "Automatically synchronize with an Internet time server".

4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
