Windows XP - Outlook Express - View or Change Where Messages Are Stored

SUMMARY: Display or configure where Outlook Express keeps its Message Store.

There are many instances where you may want to know and/or change where Outlook Express in Windows XP stores messages such as your Inbox, Outbox, Sent Items, etc.

* You may have a separate data partition or drive away from the operating system's partition or drive and wish to store messages there.

* You need to copy messages to/from another machine.

* You want to make a periodic backup of messages.

* You need to make a temporary backup of messages before converting the message store into a format readable by another e-mail program.

To view and/or change this information:

1. Click the "Tools" menu, selecting "Options".

2. The "Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears. Click the "Maintenance" tab.

3. Click the "Store Folder" button.

4. A "Store Location" dialog box appears, displaying the location of your Message Store. If desired, click "Change" to bring up a "Browse for Folder" dialog box to change the location of the Message Store.

5. When done, click "OK" on the dialog boxes to close them.
