Windows XP and the Keyboard - Prevent the Cursor from Blinking
SUMMARY: Annoyed by the blinking cursor in Notepad, Microsoft Word, and other Windows XP applications?
By default, in Notepad, Microsoft Word, and other Windows XP software that supports text entry, the cursor position is represented by a blinking cursor.
Many people find that the blinking animation makes the cursor easier to see, especially on a cluttered desktop. However, if you find this animation annoying, it can be stopped.
1. Click the "Start" button, selecting "Settings" - "Control Panel".
2. If you are in the Control Panel's Category View, click "Printers and Other Hardware", then click "Keyboard". Otherwise, double-click the "Keyboard" icon.

3. When the "Keyboard Properties" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, make sure the "Speed" tab is selected.
4. Underneath "Cursor blink rate", move the slider all the way to the left ("None").

5. Click "OK" on the dialog box to close it, and then close the Control Panel window.
