Windows XP and Calculator - Create a Keyboard Shortcut

SUMMARY: The Windows XP calculator can be just a couple of keystrokes away.

Many newer keyboards today come with a calculator button. This is very handy as it saves you keystrokes and mouse clicks whenever you need to quickly get the results of a math formula. However, if your keyboard doesn't come with such a button, this tip will provide you with a keyboard shortcut to the Windows XP Calculator.

1. On an empty area of the desktop, right-click and choose "New" - "Shortcut".

2. When the "Create Shortcut" dialog box appears, type in "calc" (without quotes) and press "Next".

3. Press "Finish" to create the shortcut.

4. Right-click on the newly created calculator icon on the desktop and choose "Properties".

5. When the "calc.exe" properties dialog appears, click in the box next to "Shortcut key".

6. Now, type in your desired shortcut. For example, you can press CTRL-ALT-C.

7. Press "OK" to close the dialog box.

Now, from wherever you are in Windows, when you type your shortcut, the calculator will appear!

To change the shortcut, follow steps 4-7 and just choose a different shortcut key. To delete the shortcut, follow steps 4-7, but press "Backspace" in step 6 to delete the shortcut.
