Whenever you close the lid of your laptop, Windows XP may automatically put the computer in Stand-By or Hibernation mode, thinking that you plan on traveling and don't need to use the computer for a while. Though this feature is useful in some circumstances, you might also just be changing rooms, going outside, etc., and don't want to wait for Windows XP to boot back up when you re-open the lid.
