Windows XP Taskbar - Toolbar - Start Menu - Remove the Quick Launch Area

SUMMARY: Disable Quick Launch icons from taking up space on your Windows XP taskbar.

The Quick Launch area, directly to the right of the Start button, normally displays icons to software Windows XP thinks you commonly need to access, such as Internet Explorer. However, it seems nowadays that every single installed application wants to add an item to the Quick Launch area. This can easily flood the area with tons of icons, making it much less useful.

If you disable the Quick Launch area, your taskbar will have more room to show currently running software. Thus, if you want to disable it:

1. Right-click on an empty area of the taskbar.
2. Choose "Toolbars" and uncheck "Quick Launch".
