Windows XP Taskbar - Toolbar - Start Menu - Change or Remove the Internet Program Listed on the Start Menu

SUMMARY: Remove or change the Windows XP Start Menu shortcut to access the Internet.

When you click the "Start" menu in Windows XP, an icon labeled "Internet" appears at the top of the menu, usually next to the icon of your default web browser. If you wish to change this icon to use a different web browser or MSN Explorer, or if you want to remove the icon altogether, either change your default Internet web browser or perform the following tweak:

1. Right-click on an empty area of the taskbar, choosing "Properties".

2. When the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, select the "Start Menu" tab.

3. Click the "Customize" button.

4. The "Customize Start Menu" multi-tabbed dialog box should appear. Select the "General" tab.

5. Underneath "Show on Start Menu":

* To change the icon - click the pull-down next to "Internet" and choose a web browser to appear on the Start Menu.

* To remove the icon - uncheck "Internet".

6. Click "OK" on the dialog boxes to close them.
