Windows XP Taskbar - Toolbar - Start Menu - Remove 'My Network Places' from the Start Menu

SUMMARY: Clean up your Windows XP Start Menu if you rarely, if ever, use 'My Network Places'.

If you are not connected to a local area network, you may never need to use the "My Network Places" shortcuts to frequently-accessed locations on the network. So, clean up your Start Menu and get rid of it.

1. Right-click on an empty area of the taskbar, choosing "Properties".

2. When the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, select the "Start Menu" tab.

3. Click the "Customize" button.

4. The "Customize Start Menu" multi-tabbed dialog box should appear. Select the "Advanced" tab.

5. Underneath "Start menu items", uncheck "My Network Places".

6. Click "OK" on the dialog boxes to close them.
