Windows XP Taskbar - Toolbar - Start Menu - Lock or Unlock the Taskbar

SUMMARY: Enable or disable Windows XP Taskbar modifications.

To prevent accidental changes or movement of the Windows XP Taskbar (in previous versions of Windows, many people accidentally moved the taskbar all over the screen), it is by default locked. This way, no changes can be done, such as resizing, moving, adding toolbars, etc., until it is manually unlocked.

To unlock the taskbar, just right-click on the clock in the System Tray area of the taskbar (on the bottom-right of your screen) and uncheck "Lock the taskbar". To re-lock it after making changes, check "Lock the taskbar".
