Windows XP Taskbar - Toolbar - Start Menu

Change or Remove the E-mail Link on the Start Menu

SUMMARY: Modify the E-mail link on the Windows XP Start Menu or remove it altogether if desired.

Depending on how your Windows XP computer is configured, when you click on the "Start Menu", the word "E-Mail" may appear on the top of the menu with a shortcut to your default e-mail software. If you'd rather have a direct link to a different e-mail package, or none at all, do the following:

1. Right-click the "Start" menu, selecting "Properties".

2. When the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "Start Menu" tab if it is not already selected.

3. Click the "Start Menu" radio button (if it is not already selected) and click "Customize".

4. When the "Customize Start Menu" dialog box appears, click the "General" tab.

5. To change the e-mail link: next to "E-mail", click the pull-down and choose your desired e-mail software.

6. Or to remove the link altogether, uncheck "E-mail".

7. Click "OK" on the dialog boxes to close them.
