Windows XP Taskbar - Toolbar - Start Menu

Opening the Control Panel from the Run Command

SUMMARY: Need to configure your Windows XP computer but can't access the Control Panel? Try this tip.

If you are unable to execute the Windows XP Control Panel from the "Start Menu", such as if the Control Panel shortcut is missing, don't fret. You can still configure your system settings by opening the Control Panel from the "Run" command:

1. Click the "Start" button, selecting "Run":
2. Type in "control" without the quotes and press "OK".

The Control Panel should appear. Now, if desired, get your Control Panel back by creating a Control Panel menu from the Start button.

Note that some computers, such as those in office environments, may be configured to not allow you access to the Control Panel. In that case, this tip may not work for you.
