Windows XP Taskbar - Toolbar - Start Menu - Display or Hide a Link to My Computer, or Display a Submenu

SUMMARY: Configure how a link to My Computer will appear on the Windows XP Start Menu.

Depending on your Windows XP configuration, the Start Menu may display a link to "My Computer" on the right side of the menu.

If desired, you can configure the Start Menu so the link to My Computer is visible, hidden, or displayed as a menu providing quick access to your drives (see the below screenshot):

1. Right-click an empty area of the taskbar, choosing "Properties".

2. The multi-tabbed "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" dialog box appears. Click the "Start Menu" tab.

3. Make sure the "Start Menu" radio button is checked, and then click its "Customize" button.

4. The multi-tabbed "Customize Start Menu" dialog box appears. Click the "Advanced" tab.

5. Underneath "Start menu items" scroll down to "My Computer". Choose either to display a link to "My Computer", a menu to the "My Computer" items, or not to display this item at all in the Start Menu.

6. Click "OK" on the dialog boxes to close them.
