Windows XP and Explorer - Toggle Clicking or Double-Clicking to Open Docs and Applications

SUMMARY: Do you want to start applications in Windows XP via a single or double-click?

Depending on your system configuration, opening an application or document requires either double-clicking the respective icon or merely single-clicking the icon. For convenience or accessibility reasons you may wish to toggle between these two behaviors:

1. Double-click the "My Computer" icon on the desktop to open the "My Computer" window.

2. Choose "Tools" - "Folder Options".

3. The "Folder Options" multi-tabbed dialog box will appear. Select the "General" tab.

4. Underneath "Click items as follows" select either the "Single-click to open an item (point to select)" or "Double-click to open an item (single-click to select)" radio button.

5. If you choose to single-click to open an item, you have the option of changing the icon underline behavior as well.

6. When done, click "OK" to close the dialog box, and then close the "My Computer" window.
