Renaming a Printer

SUMMARY: Make your Windows XP printer easier to identify - rename it.

It's easy to rename a printer in Windows XP. Just click the "Start" menu and choose "Printers and Faxes". When the "Printers and Faxes" window appears, click on the name of the printer you wish to rename. Press the F2 key and type in the printer's new name.

This may be useful if you deal with multiple printers on a network. Instead of seeing a non-descriptive printer name such as "Epson Stylus Color 880", you can name it something like "Color Printer in Mailroom".

Note this only changes the visual name of the printer; renaming a dot matrix printer to a laser printer will NOT increase its output quality! (grin).
