Windows XP and Printers - Remove a Printer

SUMMARY: Drop an unused printer from Windows XP's printer listing.

If you frequently transport a laptop computer yet need to print documents, you may have had to install and connect to a variety of printers that you now wish to remove from your system. Or, you may have just bought a new printer and want to remove your previous printer. To do so:

1. Click "Start" then "Printers and Faxes".
2. When the "Printers and Faxes" window appears, right-click on a printer and choose "Delete".
3. Confirm when prompted.

Note that removing a printer may not remove extra drivers and/or support software needed to operate the printer. You may need to remove such software manually:

1. Click "Start" then "Control Panel".
2. Choose "Add or Remove Programs".
3. If shown, select your printer software and/or drivers and choose "Change/Remove".
