Windows XP and Tweak UI - Change the Favorites Folder Location

Normally, Windows XP stores the Internet Explorer Favorites in a directory like so:

C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Favorites

You may, however, have two hard drives on your machine, one for programs and one for data. This way, your data hard drive can be easily backed up without re-backing up your software programs, which can take a long time. If this is the case, you may want your Favorites stored on your data drive. This way, they can easily be backed up and restored, if necessary.

To change the folder Windows XP uses to store your Internet Explorer Favorites:

1) Start Tweak UI (read the tips in MalekTips for downloading / installation information).

2) Click the "My Computer" link.

3) This should expand the tree. Click "Special Folders".

4) Click on the pulldown in the right pane and choose "Favorites".

5) Click "Change Locations".

6) Follow the onscreen prompts to confirm you want to change the folder, and decide which folder you want to use for your Favorites.

7) Click "OK" to close Tweak UI.

Press the "print" button on your browser or select "File" - "Print" to print this tip. Then, return to Windows XP and Tweak UI - Change the Favorites Folder Location
