Windows XP and Tweak UI - Add or Remove File Types When You Right-Click and Choose 'New'.

SUMMARY: Change the file types available when you create a new file from Windows XP Explorer with Tweak UI for Windows XP.

On your Windows XP desktop or in an Explorer folder, if you right-click and select "New" from the popup menu, you will be offered the chance to create a new folder, shortcut, or a new file, such as a "Bitmap Image" or "Text File".

If you regularly work with a particular software package, you might want the option to easily create new files that can be read by that program.

Likewise, if you install a lot of software, you might wish to disable a infrequently-used file type from appearing in this menu that popped up after running an installation program.

You can change this menu using Tweak UI.

1. Download and run Tweak UI for Windows XP.

2. Click "Templates" in the left pane.

3. From here, you have several options:

* Temporarily remove a file type from the list: Uncheck the box next to the document type you wish to remove.

* Completely remove a file type from the list: Click on a document type you wish to remove and click the "Delete" button.

* Add a file type to the list: Click the "Create" button. Navigate your computer to find the document type you wish to create, then double-click a sample file.

When you are done making your changes, click "OK" to close the Tweak UI dialog box.
