Yahoo Search - Limit Searches to a Particular Host Name

SUMMARY: Search for items in Yahoo! on a particular host.

There may be times where you are on a website and need to search for information you know exists on the site, but either it does not have its own search engine or it is very difficult to use. In these circumstances, you can use the Yahoo! Search Engine to find content only on that site.

Note that this only works for content that Yahoo! has indexed from the site. Content on dynamically-generated webpages, newer pages, and "hidden" and hard-to-get-to pages may not be found using this mechanism.

Perform a search on Yahoo! in the following format:

QUERY hostname:HOST_NAME

QUERY is your search query.

HOST_NAME is the domain for which you want to limit the results - note that with this syntax, as opposed to the site: syntax, you can limit searches to a particular host.

As examples, the following searches for content containing "1040" on the IRS website:

1040 hostname:irs.gov

This searches for information about automobiles on CNN Money, ignoring information on other CNN-related websites:

automobile hostname:money.cnn.com
