ZoneAlarm Pro - Prevent an E-Mail Attachment File Type From Being Quarantined

SUMMARY: If you do not believe an e-mail attachment needs to be quarantined to prevent potential virus attacks, disable this feature in ZoneAlarm Pro.

By default, ZoneAlarm Pro will quarantine attachment types that it deems suspicions. For example, whenever you receive an executable attachment and try to access it by double-clicking the attachment's icon, instead of the file running, a warning message should appear. After reading the warning, you can inspect the file with Notepad, save the file as a different filename, abort executing the attachment, or run the attachment anyway.

E-mail quarantine is a useful safety feature because even if you trust the person sending the attachment, e-mail sender names may be forged or a virus can cause the attachment to be created.

If, however, you find that you often receive e-mail of a specific file type and completely trust its source, you can prevent that file type from being quarantined.

1. Double-click the "ZA" icon on the Windows Taskbar to bring up ZoneAlarm Pro.

2. When the "ZoneAlarm Pro" window appears, click "E-mail Protection".

3. Click the "Attachments" tab.

4. Find the file type that is always being quarantined and click on the column's "Quarantine" icon.

5. Select "Allow" from the pop-up menu that appears.

6. Click the "Apply" button.
