ZoneAlarm Pro
-
Block JavaScript, VBScript, and/or Embedded Objects
SUMMARY: Configure ZoneAlarm Pro to block potentially-malicious objects inside webpages.
ZoneAlarm Pro has options to block several types of scripts and objects in your viewed web pages, including:
* JavaScript * Other scripts such as VBScript * Java and ActiveX objects * Mime-type integrated objects (such as movies that auto-play when you visit a webpage)
By preventing some of these objects from executing you will lessen the chance of your computer getting infected by a virus or spyware. However, many legitimate webpages may not run correctly. Movies may not play, menus may not function, and some webpages may just fail to load. Thus, you may want to temporarily disable certain types of objects before viewing webpages you do not trust, then allowing these objects to start again for webpages you do trust.
1. Double-click the "ZA" icon on the Windows Taskbar to bring up ZoneAlarm Pro.
2. When the "ZoneAlarm Pro" window appears, click "Privacy".
3. Underneath "Mobile Code Control", you can click the "On" radio button to protect yourself from non-JavaScript scripts, Java and ActiveX objects, and Mime-type integrated objects.
If you want to protect yourself from JavaScript, or if you want to protect yourself from only certain types of objects, do the following:
1. Click the "Custom" button underneath "Mobile Code Control".
2. When the "Custom Privacy Settings" dialog box appears, check the boxes next to the type of mobile code that you wish to block.
3. When done, click "OK" to close the dialog box.
4. Restart your web browser to help ensure the settings take effect.
